Travel nursing pay day. How important is it for you?

Over at Gary Cox wrote a great post about travel nursing pay and what he believes is a healthy approach for travel nurses to take when it comes to looking at the pay component of the travel nursing benefits package. In a nutshell, don’t sacrifice your life to chase the pay. It is a great post though so I will let you read it.

My take: Yes travel nurses’ pay is most often higher than perm nurses in the same hospital. But if you let this become your main motivation to be a traveling RN and forget the real reason you became a nurse in the first place, which is to care for and help people, you may come to resent not only travel nursing, but nursing in general.

Take our new poll on the home page and let us know what is most important to you as a travel nurse.

I keep hearing about how travel nurses make more money than a perm bedside RN. When people say that are they taking into account all of the benefits that go into being a traveler because if they are talking about the hourly rate I would have to disagree. I have not found a travel assignment yet that pays more than what I am making as a bedside nurse. I think that is part of my hesitation with wanting to travel…I want to make at least what I am making right now if that is possible. What is your take on this?
