As a travel ICU RN, my latest assignment was scheduled and cancelled by the Hospital with only 12 hours notice. Meanwhile, I had paid out-of-pocket around $800 for my plane ticket, MD assess, new license for that State, etc…do I have any recourse and do I have any rights here?

  2. Bret says:

Thanks for the question Kaye. That sounds like a very unfortunate situation and I’m sorry to hear you’re dealing with that. I do want to point out that hospitals can cancel positions at any time at their discretion. This is why it’s so important to pick a good agency to work with. In this type of situation, most reputable agencies would work with you to reimburse your travel expenses and also find you a new assignment.

For your situation, if your agency is unwilling to reimburse your expenses you do have the option of consulting with a lawyer to attempt to recoup that money. I hope everything works out and doesn’t deter you from travelling in the future.
