Typically in our monthly post we talk about scrubs, buying tips, fashion, and a lot of other topics that hopefully help make uniform decisions for travel nurses a little easier. Today I wanted to stray from my normal topics and talk about a great event that is going to happen in about two weeks. Plus, I think that almost everyone in the healthcare industry will appreciate what is going on!
Think Project Runway with a twist. To make it even better, think a Project Runway event that is benefiting a great cause. That is what The U of Minnesota Medical School Student Council and the FAB: Fashion and Business student group have put together; a Project Runway themed fashion competition, benefiting Smile Network.
Great idea right? The teams made up purely of design students, will have to create one couture (I didn’t even know what this was before I wrote this article) outfit and one ready-to-wear look, and the kicker? They will be made completely out of plain old medical SCRUBS!
It gets even better. To make the evening even more exciting, Project Runways, Christopher Straub and Shop NBC’s Lisa Roberts will be the hosts for the event. Straub has even committed to displaying his own scrub/healthcare inspired collection. Who knows, maybe his styles may make it into production and become available for sale in the not too distant future. In addition to using ticket sales to generate revenue for the Smile Network, there will also be a silent auction for fashion accessories and items from Smile Network’s Global Collection.
If you are in the Minneapolis area you should definitely check the event out! There are a limited # of tickets and it goes off on April 16th. Even if you can’t make it to the event, take a second to visit the Smile Networks site and see how you can get involved to help out this great cause.
The students at the University of Minnesota have done a great job putting this thing together. I can honestly say that I have been incredibly impressed by all of their hard work. We here at scrubadoo are very fortunate to have the opportunity to be a part of this really fun event.
