Ask a Travel Nurse: What’s the best hospital for Travel Nurses in Houston?

Ask a Travel Nurse Question:

I’d like to take an assignment in Houston, preferably in psych, but I understand psych positions are often limited so my next choice is med/surg. I have a choice in hospitals to pick from, but I was wanting to know which hospital would be the best and what other nurses are saying about the hospitals in that area. What’s the best hospital for Travel Nurses in Houston?

Ask a Travel Nurse Answer:

Since I’ve never traveled in Texas, this would not be in my wheelhouse. But if you open the question to a wider audience, you might be able to find someone who can give you some advice.

Try posting on several of the travel nursing forums or search the posts for any with “Texas” in the text. Some good travel nurse forums can be found at ultimatenurse.com, allnurses.com, and the Delphi forum for traveling professionals (go to delphiforums.com, look for the box on the right that says “Explore existing forums”, type in “travel nursing” and the top result is a group called Travel Nurses and Therapists).

Pan Travelers is another good site with a forum as well as Healthcare Travelbook, which is a sort of Facebook style place for travelers. Sorry I could not advise you directly, but hopefully the aforementioned will lead you to your answer. David

About the Author:

Hello everyone. I’m a travel nurse originally from Ohio who graduated in 1993 from Mount Carmel School of Nursing in Columbus. I completed a critical care fellowship at Riverside Methodist Hospital in 1994 and started traveling in that specialty a year later. My first travel assignment was in Maui and since that time I have completed close to 40 different contracts in various states with multiple travel companies. I am the author of Travel Nurse’s Bible (A Guide to Everything on Travel Nursing), in addition to my writings here and in the pages of Travel Nursing publications such as Healthcare Traveler Magazine and American Nurse Today. I am presently on assignment in Phoenix, AZ and travel anywhere from six to eleven months of the year.
